Take your HSE – High School Equivalency Exam at Cumberland County College to receive your high school diploma from the State of New Jersey. It’s easy to do and registration is all online! In order to register, you MUST have a credit card, a PayPal account or a check. All of the instructions are online when you sign up.
The total cost to take the exam is $90 for all five subjects/full battery.
Please read all of the instructions carefully and make sure that when you come for the exam, you have all TWO OR MORE identifications ready and have followed all of the regulations set forth by the STATE OF NEW JERSEY. See list of required ID’s.

How much does the HiSET exam cost?
The total cost of the HiSET is $90.00 for the full battery which consists of all five subjects or pay for individual subtests. You must have a debit or credit card to sign up for the HiSET exam. If you don’t, you may have a prepaid card from a major bank, PNC Bank, etc., or a check or you could fund a PayPal® account. No cash or money orders.
Payment policies
Remember, the total cost of the exam is $90.00 or pay for individual subtests.

What are the requirements for taking the HiSET exam in NJ?
HiSET State Eligibility Requirements
To take the HiSET exam in the state of New Jersey, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Age: You must be 18 years old to take the test without meeting special conditions. If you are 16–17 years old, you need to have a Consent of Non-enrollment form signed by your parent or legal guardian stating that they give permission for you to take the test and they understand that by doing this, they are taking you out of the public school system.
(NOTE: For students 16-17 years old taking test at CCC-Vineland NJ, please contact 856/200-4531 regarding Non-enrollment form to unlock student account before scheduling appointment with Hi-Set).
Residency: You must be a New Jersey resident to take the test at a test center in New Jersey. See Identification below for more details.
Test Preparation or Instruction: New Jersey does not require test preparation or instruction, though it is encouraged.
Practice Test: New Jersey does not require you to take a practice test to qualify for the HiSET exam.
Please bring ID’s as specified on the list below each day you are scheduled
to test. You will not be admitted to the testing room without the correct ID’s.
a driver’s license, permit, passport, voter registration, school/college ID, employee ID, or other photo identification, valid or expired, that has been issued by a public or private third party;
AND one or more of any of the following:
Property tax bills; deeds; contracts of sale; leases; mortgages; signed letters from landlords; and other evidence of property ownership, tenancy or residency
Financial account information, utility bills, delivery receipts and other evidence of personal attachment to a particular location
Court orders, state agency agreements, and other evidence of court or agency placements or directives
Receipts, bills, cancelled checks, insurance claims or payments, and other evidence of expenditures demonstrating personal attachment to a particular location or to support the test taker
Medical reports, counselor or social worker assessments, employment documents, unemployment claims, benefit statements, and other evidence of circumstances demonstrating family or economic hardship, or temporary residency
Affidavits, certifications, and sworn attestations pertaining to statutory criteria from the parent, guardian, person keeping an "affidavit student," adult student, person(s) with whom a family is living, or others, as appropriate
Documents pertaining to military status and assignment
Any other business record or document issued by a governmental entity

ATTENTION: Please make sure you provide a photo ID from the list above and also one or more proofs of address from the lists above. You will not be admitted to the test without them.
What should you bring on exam day?
1) Cell phones and watches will not be allowed into the testing room. Please leave it at home or in your car.
2) Hoodies and hats are not allowed unless it is a form of religious garment.
3) You must present all identifications on each test day at Cumberland County College, Academic Bldg. – Upper Level, Room A24. (Bldg. #2 on campus map)
You must provide ID’s as specified on lists above.
After review of all identifications presented, the testing center staff has the right to accept or refuse any document. Any questions, please contact the New Jersey Department of Education, Adult Education Office at (609) 777-1050 (Voice Mail).
Scratch paper
You will receive three pieces of scratch paper before you begin the test. You cannot take the scratch paper with you when you are finished testing.
Test takers who are taking multiple subtests in one day can take a break between subtests as well as between the essay and multiple-choice portions of the Language Arts – Writing subtest. Timing will not stop if you take an unscheduled break, so you should be prepared to proceed with your test without interruption once it begins.
Head Coverings and Headgear
Head coverings (headgear) worn for religious or medical purposes are permitted. Typical head coverings may include hats, turbans, scarves and yarmulkes. Do not remove or put anything into the covering during the test.
Both order and security must be maintained at the test center; therefore, if you fail to adhere to the policies of the test center and/or cause a disturbance you may be dismissed from the testing session and your scores will not be reported. Refer to the website for additional information. You may be removed at the supervisor’s discretion.
Come to the college on College Drive. Enter the campus at the North Entrance.
Park in Parking Lot G (first parking area). See arrows on the campus map.
Come on the sidewalk between the George Luciano Conference Center (Bldg. #5 on campus map) and the Frank Guaracini Jr. Arts Center (Bldg. #6 on campus map).
Look for the Academic Building, straight ahead. (Building #2 on campus map).
Come into the Academic Building. You will see the stairs on the right. There is also an elevator a little further ahead on the right.
Come to the Upper Level. Come through the double doors and turn left (first hallway).
Look for Room A24 on the left. Please wait quietly in the hallway and we will come and get you as soon as we have the room ready.
